John Fisher

John Fisher took his first course in Georgist economics in 1957 under
the tutelage of Harry Pollard while teaching school near Toronto. He
was an instructor for the Henry George School of Economic Science
which in the 60's had over 100 part time teachers. He is currently
Executive Director of the School and President of the Henry George
Foundation of Canada. He is also a Trustee on the Henry George
Foundation of America.
As a member of several Georgist organizations but specifically the
Council of Georgist Organizations he coordinated the 2002 CGO
Conference in London, Ontario.
During his professional career John taught on both the elementary
panel (10 years) and secondary panel (25 years) where his main subject
area was geography. He graduated form the University of Western
Ontario (London).
For a total of 15 years, John was a Village of Rodney councillor and
as Reeve (2 years) he was on County Council. He has also been a Green
Party candidate in two federal and two provincial elections for the
riding of Elgin-Middlesex-London. He was a long term chair of the
local Chamber of Commerce and member (President 2 years) of the
Kiwanis Club of Rodney.
As a Georgist activist, John has contributed articles to many
Georgist and non Georgist publications over the years. He researched
and published a Site Value Study for Rodney and after amalgamation in
1993 for the Township of Aldborough.
John retired from teaching in 1989 but is still actively promoting
the Georgist philosophy whenever the opportunity arises.
