Hamlet was one of the founders in the 1980s and served as president
of the Washington State Georgist Association chapter of CGUSA. He
actively worked for legislative support for 1994 and 1996 Washington
two-tiered property tax enabling bills.
Hamlet was introduced to the Georgist philosophy in 1955 in a 12-week
land economics course based on Progress and Poverty, at the San Diego
Henry George School. He attended CGO conferences in Ringe, New
Hampshire, Fairhope, Alabama, Sante Fee, New Mexico and will be
attending the Des Moines, Iowa conference this year. He joined the
Naval Reserve unit in Aberdeen, Washington prior to WWII (in which he
served in active duty) and was an electronics technician for 20 years
in Naval service. After World Ward II he worked as an accounting for a
construction firm. In Lewis County, Washington, he served four years
on the Board of Supervisors, served on the Lewis County Conservation
District for 25 years, and was a member of the Lewis County Forestry
Association. He also paticipated in the South Peget Educational
Environmental Group meetings in Olympia. He attends Lewis County
Republican meetings.
