How I Came to Embrace the Principles

Progress and Poverty did it for me. Just as I finished my
Valuations qualification at RMIT in the early 1970s, I saw this quaint
little shop in Hardware Street Melbourne. It said something about land
tax in the window. Land tax? What would this mob know about land tax,
I thought. I was directed to P&P and bought a copy. Started
reading it on the way home in the train. Read it thru the night.
Couldn't wait to read it at lunchtime in the Australian Taxation
Office where I worked as a valuer. Finished it that night. Floored, I
was; absoluted floored. Yet, I've seen people read it and remain
unconvinced and unaffected. It's a case of 'horses for courses', I
s'pose.
