ECO-TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL |
... |
- 1937 - Article, "New Danish Manual," The Freeman, November:
The Eco-Technical High School ... has its own teachers' manual,
an adaptation of the British and American manuals paged to follow the Jacob E. Lange
translation of Progress and Poverty.
Three hundred students were enrolled in twenty classes at various points in its first year,
most of them in Copenhagen and its environs. One of the most successful was conducted by
Sven Larsen on the Island of Laaland. it met twice weekly.
The Danish School's inspiration came from the London International Conference of 1936 and
the address by Lancaster M. Greene, trustee of the Henry George School of Social Science of
New York, which traced the origin, progress and scope of the School's contribution to the
Georgist movement.
- 1937 - December: Mrs. Bue Bjorner, secretary of the Eco-Technical
Institute reported that more than 600 students completed courses during the year.
- 1938 - April: Three classes were started at the Husmandsskolen, Odense, one
of Denmark's people's high schools. An offer was made to offer classes in each of the 85 adult
folk-schools in the country.
- 1938 - Article, "51 Danish Classes," The Freeman, September:
The Eco-Technic High School, Denmark's Henry George School, looks
forward to a successful third season just beginning. The School closed its last season with over
one thousand pupils in 51 classes. Thirty-five classes studied
Progress and Poverty and
sixteen Prtection or Free Trade.
A new edition of Jacob Lange's translation of
Progress and Poverty
will be brought out early this Fall. Four former editions have been completely sold out; with the new
edition 10,500 copies of this great book will have been printed in Denmark.
