the personal tax. The Club believes that this procedure will result in a single tax being
placed upon land values."

"It is my firm
conviction that a single tax victory can be won in California
this year. It is only a question of fully acquainting all the
voters with the true meaning of the amendment. Californians are
opposed to land monopoly and pretty genrally know that single
tax will cure it. With the world's shortage of food and our
knowledged that food can only come from land open to use, the
only thing that could defeat us would be an empty war chest."

"It seems to me
that the Great Adventure in California has sized up the
situation as it is, and not as we would like it to be; that,
philosophically and with rare acumen, they re taking advantage
of the 'psychologic moment' to do the one thing which all
singletaxers shold now earnestly and unitedly do -- utilize the
present stressed conditions to apply the only possible
harmonious and lasting remedy to the cause of them. If the
stressed economic conditions which produced, and are being
intensified by, this war do not result in the adoption of single
tax as a means of opening the land, there will be no escape, I
fear, from industrial revolutions both here and abroad."
